SYTYCW – Week 3 Round Up

11 Sep

In my email box this week, I received this fun fact: The average length of a commercial fiction sentence is between 14 and 22 words. Now let’s see what the SYTYCW numbers look like for the week.

Also – CONGRATS AGAIN TO Kat Cantrell – she shared her SYTYCW link and won this weeks drawing.

We had 19 entries – With the drops we had, I wanted to slow down our cuts, so for the next few weeks, we’re cutting 2 entries each week. With that, we totalled 213 votes – 22 votes less than the last round.

So, of those 22 lines:

  • The shortest entry was 29 words
  • The longest entry was 101 words
  • The average entry was 61 words
  • 6 had dialogue
  • 2 included the character’s name
  • 14 were 1st person
  • 5 were 3rd person
  • 11 had 1 paragraph
  • 7 had 2 paragraphs
  • 1 had 3 paragraphs

The top 5:

  • The shortest entry was 43 words
  • The longest entry was 65 words
  • The average entry was 51 words
  • 1 included dialogue
  • 2 included the name
  • 3 were 1st person
  • 2 were 3rd person
  • All of them had only 1 paragraph

The bottom 5:

  • The shortest entry was 32 words
  • The longest entry was 71 words
  • The average entry was 53 words
  • 1 included dialogue
  • all 5  were 1st person
  • 4 had 1 paragraph
  • 1 had 2 paragraphs

The votes were split like this (# of votes / # of entries)

  • 1 vote   / 1 entry
  • 2 votes / 2 entries
  • 3 votes / 1 entry
  • 4 votes / 2 entries
  • 5 votes / 3 entries
  • 7 votes / 1 entry
  • 8 votes /1 entry
  • 9 votes / 1 entries
  • 10 votes /2 entry
  • 12 votes /1 entries
  • 16 votes / 1 entry
  • 21 votes / 1 entry
  • 30 votes / 1 entry
  • 59 votes / 1 entry
